Mature trees

We have many mature or veteran trees at The Wolseley Centre, a veteran tree can be defined as: "a tree that is of interest biologically, culturally or aesthetically because of its age, size or condition", some of the trees at Wolseley are over 300 years old!
Veteran Trees can contain a wealth of wildlife and can be a link to a past world of such things as medieval deer parks and commoners' grazing.
We think most of the trees at The Wolseley Centre were planted at one time or another throughout the sites' diverse history. We know that the Cedar of Lebanon was planted by Temple Lake during the 1770's this tree was brought back to the site by a member of the Wolseley family who had been traveling in the Middle East. It is now over a hundred feet tall and a spectacular scene on the landscape.
Read on to discover the importance of these trees for both people and wildife.
